A new year is coming soon and that means different things to many photographers and those that love photography. A new year for a photographer may mean an opportunity to plan new adventures, develop new photography skills, get new equipment, attend a workshop, travel to a new and exciting place, start a new business, sell a new product, etc... The fact is many photographers from different walks of life and those with different experiences and skill sets may have a variety of plans for the new year and that is awesome. I personally love to read blog posts and see videos of photographers who love photography because they inspired me to do what I love to do. So, the question is, what do you want to accomplish as a photographer in 2018? My plan is to improve my photography skills, collaborate with other photographers, develop new products, build my photography portfolio, market more, and build my business. However, those are not my main objectives for 2018. I will primarily focus on why I got into photography in the first place. My overall enjoyment of photography comes from capturing special moments in time. That could be a beautiful sunset, sunrise, landscape, nature, or a special event. But more importantly, it is many times a moment in time that is more personal, like the life of my grandson. I am fully aware that he will not be a little boy forever and I want to capture those special moments. Those of you who have grand-children can understand what I am referring to.
I also want to capture and record moments in time that hopefully will be enjoyed by others long after I am gone. I consider myself a photographer of life and even though a special moment may not be a huge deal to some people at the moment it usually is later on in one's life. I thankfully learned early in my life that special moments come very fast and many times are unexpected. Most importantly, special moments will never come back. Many times people forget that. For me, that requires me to be ready to capture those moments either through a photograph or video. In 2018, I want to continue to capture special moments in my life and those for others.
So, what are your goals as a photographer in 2018? Whatever you choose to pursue I wish you the very best. Keep in touch in 2018. I would love to hear how your photography grows in 2018.
Until next time, keep shooting!
