I have a great question? Does using social media really benefit you in your business or more importantly in your life? I know a lot of people say that it is so important to use social media to help grow a business and to keep in touch with friends, family, new customers, etc... Do you think social media really helps in bringing people together? In my opinion, it does not. However, I do feel the Internet is very important and a necessity to gather information, become more informed, and to learn new things to become more creative.
So, does social media outlets like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Vera, and other popular social media really benefit someone? Maybe it does, but not me. Yes, I do use social media but not in the same manner as most people. I like to study how people use it but I do not rely on it for my personal growth, development, or rely on it to change my world. Many times I find social media platforms are a total waste of my time. Some people will say that social media helps them stay in touch with others. In my opinion, there is nothing social about social media and in my life, I see really no real benefit in my life or in my business.
I feel that there are better ways to keep in touch with, trends, business, family, friends, or new customers. First, I try to actually talk actual talk to real people when possible. I want to hear directly from them. I want to hear about their day, get updates on their life, hear about their opinions, their dreams, projects, etc... I want to see them. But, many times that is not possible. When I can't actually meet with people I use other forms of communications. I like to text old friends. I actually send out weekly text messages to my friends every Sunday morning to find out how their week went. And get this, I really want to know. I also like to you "old school" communication methods that some people have forgotten about, like emails. I use Facetime or Skype to communicate with others when I can. Facetime and Skype are awesome because they allow me actually see others and communicate with them. Finally, there is the old phone call to talk to old friends, family, and customers. It is good to actually hear a real voice.
It is important to remember that social media is by all means, not social. Social media programs and apps present an "illusion" about others and their lives. Social media can also be very damaging to relations; personal and professional. Let's face it, there is a lot of worthless trash on all social media sites. That is why I focus on spending my time in a more productive manner. I would much rather spend my time doing things I enjoy like spending time with family and real friends, improving my photography skills and creating something meaningful and cool.
If you enjoy social media and find it a benefit in your life, cool. I can find more important ways to spend my time, like creating a cool blog post like this one. Now, the challenge is finding a good way to distribute a link to it. I would use social media but no one actually visits sites or reads anymore. They just blindly like to hit the "Like" button, which I find very irritating.
