As most of you know I enjoy restoring old photos and hearing about the subjects in the photos. This week an old friend of mine wanted to know if I could restore an old photo for him. The young man in the photo is Captain Robert Certain was shot down the first night of Linebacker II; he was a B52 Navigator. Spent 101 days as a POW. Went on to become a Colonel, Chaplain, and a published author. To this day he is heavily involved in veteran affairs. He was actually former President Ford's Priest.
The photo was not too difficult to restore. My biggest problem is trying to take a very small image and apply some clarity to the image. Most photos, like this photo, has discoloration problems. To restore and enhance the photo I had to use Photoshop and Lightroom. I am a big believer in using my Lightroom presets to help me improve my images. Great presets are a big time saver and gives me a variety of options on how much I can enhance an image. In this image I used a traditional black and white preset. I think the final image came out pretty well.
Roger's Tip: I recommend that every photographer use presets. Presets gives so many creative options for an image and speeds up the post editing process. I make is habit to collect all the presets I can because I shoot so many different types of images. For me, presets ROCK!
Until next time.
